The Baja Adventure
Baja Safari
Shortcut through the cactus field.
Don't worry about the wet arroyos, cactus fields, canyon walls, rock cliffs, sand or getting lost. One shot to get back up the steep, sandy hill we rode down or spend a majority of the trip in a dry river valley.
Somewhere in Baja. Luke Speeler and Sean Matthews.Full Moon Rising over Scorpion Bay
The camp spot at San Juanico was set on top of a high cliff overlooking the bay, called Scorpion Bay. The spot is a reeling right-hander that when working can produce mile long rides.
After a few days in the desert it was nice kick back and drink a few cold cervezas around the fire. Recalling our journey to get to this spot.
San Juanico. Dylan McClain, Sean Matthews and Luke Speeler. The Reward
I can remember the looks on their faces... Blanca, a Cat 4 Hurricane bearing down and terrible news from home. Camping trip to a remote island cancelled and not sure if reaching Los Cabos was even an option. What to do?...
We finished lunch and went back to check the surf. Not even sure what it would look like since the Hurricane seemed to disorganize the perfect southern swell. But this was the reward.Calm Before The Storm
With 'Camp Voodoo' behind us, morale was a little low and the Hurricane coming just left everyone feeling a little uneasy. We decided to stay further away from the main coast, an estuary called Estero Coyote. The mangroves, Ospreys and the jumping mullet reminded us all of home and definitely helped raise the spirits.
Teamwork
Two of three amigos... it took one to get it, one to finish it and one to drag it up. Free diving one of the world's best banks was something we will never forget. Sean put a nice shot on a wahoo but it pulled free, still found a way to get a very nice red snapper (pictured below). The amount of fish inhabiting this area was unreal. Later we dove a shipwreck that was in much shallower water. Here we found a grouper and some cubera snapper, including the one pictured.
Souvenirs
In the digital age a dinosaur roams... To be continued.
